Frost, Anyone?

Lord, it's hot! Please be careful when you're running in this weather.

If you haven't seen it already, take a peek at the HalfWits blog and the discussion they've had about adequate hydration during hot and especially humid days. It's a lesson even experienced runners have to relearn from time to time.

Don't ever take extreme conditions lightly.

Hard to believe, but in a few months we'll be talking about the other extreme--extremely cold and raw weather. I think those discussions are more fun!

Be ready for September 29. At 7 am we'll start the inaugural season of the Frost Toes! Get your frost on!

Attention Abe's Army Grads

So you've met your goal--no matter where you started, you trained to run one of the most challenging 10k races in central Illinois.

Congratulations!

Now what?

Now you can go it on your own, continuing the running schedule you followed during your Abe's Army days. You can slowly fade away and quit running, since you no longer have a specific goal or the support of your Abe's Army platoon.

Or you can set a new goal for yourself and join a group dedicated to helping you achieve your goal. Welcome to the Frost Toes. We're all about getting ready to run the Frostbite Festival 10 mile race on December 2.

That's right, 10 miles.

You can do it. You KNOW you can do it, because you just completed a program that took you from hardly running at all to running a 6.2-mile race. Stepping up to 10 miles isn't out of reach for you, especially with the training program we've developed and especially with the encouragement and support of fellow runners.

You don't have to commit to running a certain pace. We're not taking attendance at any of the runs. If you want to join us, just show up at Panera West on Saturday, September 29 at 7 am. We'll talk about the training ahead of us and go for a run. What could be better?

Oh, and be sure to watch this blog for the latest Frost Toes information!

Circle the Date!

Saturday, September 29 will be the first workout for the Frost Toes! We'll gather at Panera West at 7 am for an easy 5 mile run. I'll have the full training schedule printed for you to take home and frame or just hang on the fridge (actually, the freezer door is more appropriate for the Frost Toes schedule).

We warmly encourage ALL Abe's Army graduates to take their training to the next level by coming out and running with the Frost Toes. You did the training necessary to finish a challenging 10k, why not try a challenging 10 mile?

Circle the date on your calendar, log the date into your Blackberry, do whatever it takes to remind yourself to be at Panera West at 7 am September 29. We can get several weeks in before the frost forms on our toes!
